Bengaluru civic body and residents join hands to ease traffic mess

Residents BBMP officials on a two-hour trip of all potential diversion-roads

Bengaluru: Finally the civic authorities have started considering citizen-commuters as legitimate parties to their projects. The BBMP is constructing an underpass at Kundalahalli Gate and a signal-free corridor will be a hallmark of the entire road between Vallara Junction and Hope Farm.

Recently, the residents of Whitefield gave BBMP a two-hour trip of all potential diversion roads so that the civic authorities can come up with organised and motorable alternative routes before the project kickstarts and avoid traffic snarls. Three lakh people need to get in and out of Whitefield through that junction.

They also pointed out to BBMP engineers that diversion paths are critical, and that the existing condition of all diversion paths is pathetic, something they seemed to be genuinely unaware of. Now, the civic agencies have promised to provide motorable alternative road diversions. They have carved out a google map and the residents have followed up with a map specifying the exact roads to be made motorable.

The residents took Mr Kabade, executive enginner of BBMP and others on a two-hour trip of all potential diversion-roads. Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, RK Mishra said, “Once the digging of the underpass starts, there will be major traffic issues, so we need to identify alternative routes that are motorable. We also have to divert a few bus routes. Usually this is done haphazardly.

“This time for once we are doing it in an organised manner. This time citizens are also involved. Till the land is acquired they will not start any digging. They also have to shift the existing utility pipes.”
