I was made to climb flagpole twice in school: Injured girl

The girl's neck got entangled in flag hoisting rope and her neck was critically injured
Mysore: “I was made to climb the flag post twice. The first time, I got down without tying the flag and I was forced to climb again. I tied the flag the next time, but got scared while climbing down and fell,” 12-year-old Ranjitha, who is still being treated in a hospital for critical injuries, told her parents.
Ranjitha, daughter of Naga and Anasooya, is from the Soliga Colony of Jaypura hobli in Mysore taluk. Ranjitha was allegedly forced by two teachers to climb a 15-foot-tall flagpole to tie the National Flag on the eve of Independence Day at a government school in the V.V. Puram police limits. The girl slipped and her neck got entangled in the flag hoisting rope, leaving her critically injured.
Ranjitha, told the police that school Headmistress Pricilla Rodrigues and teacher Komala made her climb the flagpole.
The V.V. Puram police, who have registered a case of negligence under Section 338 of the IPC based on a complaint filed by Ranjitha’s parents, arrested the two teachers. They are out on bail now. The police said that Ranjitha, who has been moved out of the ICU of a private hospital, is recovering. “She is trying to talk and eat slowly. She is likely to be discharged this week. We are yet to discuss it with doctors,” the police said.
Ansooyamma said, “We are illiterate and we sent our child to the school with a dream of seeing her educated. The teachers should behave responsibly and ensure the safety of children.”
