The perfect selfie gets doctored

Youngsters in the city are now opting for cosmetic procedures to look great in selfies
Chennai:The search for the perfect selfie has now gone beyond photo-apps and filters. The world looked on with awe (mingled with a wee bit of shock) as 33-year-old Christa Hendershot went under the knife so that her engagement ring looked pretty on her hands. Now, youngsters in the city too are opting for cosmetic treatment to look ravishing in selfies.
Dr Karthik Ram of the Chennai Plastic Surgery says that many youngsters now want to look good in selfies. “People these days opt for skin glow treatments and the under-eye procedures to get rid of puffy eyes and dark circles are more popular. With the pressure to be present on social media, many people want to look their best, especially while taking selfies,” he explains.
City-based model Aishvarrya Suresh says that going under the knife for a photograph is a bit over the top. “I’m not really a selfie person and it doesn’t even strike me to take out my phone and click a selfie. Being a model, I do like to click pictures of myself to send it to my friends. But I don’t think that people should obsess so much. They should be confident and let that show in the selfies. There’s no point in going overboard because at the end of the day, it’s just another photograph,” she points out.
Stylist Prajanya Anand says that a selfie isn’t worth so much hassle. “I think it’s madness! I can understand if one opts for a skin treatment in case of genuine problems, like acne or for a better lifestyle. But going through cosmetic surgery for a selfie is too much! People can rather learn how to put makeup and look prettier than go in for cosmetic surgery. I can understand if people go in for treatments for health reasons but doing it just for a selfie, doesn’t make sense,” she says.
