Chandrababu Naidu and KCR have one-to-one meeting at Governor's residence

Both feel meet was auspicious and a consensus was arrived at on various issues

Hyderabad: Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Chief Ministers K. Chandrasekhar Rao and N. Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday agreed to resolve various contentious issues between the two governments through talks and mutual cooperation.

The two states have been at loggerheads over several issues such as distribution of employees, sharing of electricity and water, sharing of buildings in the common capital, state-level institutions offering common services, fee reimbursement etc.

During the meeting, held at the initiative of Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan at Raj Bhavan on Sunday, the Chief Ministers accompanied by their chief secretaries, held talks for nearly two hours and reached a consensus on sharing of Assembly premises, 107 state-level institutions offering common services and distribution of staff.

The Chief Ministers agreed to meet frequently in future to sort out issues instead of approaching the Centre or the courts.

The chief secretaries have been asked to resolve issues like employee distribution, and if they fail to do so at their level, talks will then be held at the Chief Minister level.
Mr Rao termed the talks with Mr Naidu as an “auspicious sign”.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said that he advised Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu on the new AP capital and told him that the area near Mangalagiri/Amaravati would be the ideal location as per vastu.

“I requested Babu to allow us to use their Bandar Port since Telangana has no coast or ports, to which he agreed. Similarly, there are several institutions in Hyderabad, whose services AP can avail. This should be a give and take,” Mr Rao said.

Mr Naidu said, “We agreed to cooperate on distribution of 60,000 employees and 107 state-level institutions. It was agreed that issues should be resolved through talks.”
However, few issues such as special powers to the Governor on law and order etc. did not come up for discussion in the meeting.

Mr Rao said that they had agreed to swap officials like existing chief secretary and DGP, if they were allotted to the other state as part of the AIS distribution.
