Telangana will issue Rs 1 lakh bond to farmers if RBI backtracks

Bonds for farmers will be issued for three or five-year duration
Hyderabad: The Telangana government is planning to issue Rs 1 lakh bonds to farmers, if the RBI refuses or delays waiver of crop loans any further.
The government has also decided to implement 22 per cent reservations for SCs and STs while appointing Vice-Chancellors, members of Executive Councils, Senates in universities and chairpersons for market committees. Reservations for BCs will also be provided in these appointments.
The bonds for farmers will be issued for three- or five-year duration. The government will pay the interest for this period after farmers sell the bonds to the government.
The Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday told reporters that the government has been pursuing the case with the RBI to extend loan waivers for all the districts. If this process gets delayed further, the government will think of issuing bonds and work out other alternatives to help the farmers.
“The RBI has been asking the government to pay the entire amount of Rs 19,000 crore at a time to extend loan waiver. This is not possible for the government due to financial constraints,” Mr Rao said.
He said the government has decided to build an exclusive girls’ hostel for dalits in each Assembly constituency. “The dropout rate is more from these sections. Studies have revealed that girls have been discontinuing studies due to lack of hostel facility,” Mr Rao said.
