Robber stabs two cops, shot dead

Police had set trap for the notorious criminal by tracking his phone signal
Hyderabad: A notorious robber, who was involved in over 300 cases, was shot dead by the police after he stabbed a cop at Shamshabad on the midnight of Friday. The "encounter" took place on a service road along the Outer Ring Road near Kothwalguda. The 28-year-old robber, Kadaluri Siva, alias Samba, tried to escape by attacking the cops, when his motorbike was intercepted. After several incidents of chain snatching on the outskirts of the city, the police had been trying to nab Siva by tracking his cellphone signals.
A special team from the Central Crime Station of Cyberabad, led by inspector Y. Narasimha and sub-inspector C. Venkatesh, had laid a trap for him minutes before the encounter, Cyberabad police said. Sub-inspector C. Venkatesh, who sustained at least five stab wounds, was shifted to a private hospital in Madhapur. Inspector Narasimha, who fired at Siva, also sustained a minor injury. Senior police officials said both the injured cops were in stable condition.
According to Cyberabad police commissioner C.V. Anand, several police teams were deployed to arrest Siva following the chain-snatching incidents. “Siva had given a slip to the cops earlier on Thursday. But, on Friday night, when he switched on his cellphone, our team tracked his location and special teams were deployed to catch him,” said Mr Anand.
At around 10.40 pm, Siva came on his bike from the Himayatsagar side, and SI Venkatesh stopped him for frisking. Suddenly, he took out a knife and stabbed the SI several times.
“When the SI was taking out his service revolver, Siva tried to snatch it. Meanwhile, inspector Narasimha came to the rescue of the injured SI, and tried to overpower the criminal.
Siva started his bike and tried to escape. This is when the inspector fired at his vehicle. Siva fell down on the road. But he got up immediately, and continued to brandish his knife. The inspector fired at him in self defence,” said a senior police official from Cyberabad.
Sources said that three bullets were fired at Shiva, who died on the spot. Cops said that they had called an ambulance to shift Shiva to hospital, but he succumbed before it arrived.
