Telangana: KCR warns of evil eye on Intensive Household survey

Mr Rao said the survey was being conducted to make the state a golden Telangana

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday lashed out at “evil forces” who were trying to obstruct the state-wide Intensive Household Survey to be conducted by the state government on August 19.

Delivering his maiden Independence Day speech as Chief Minister from Golconda Fort, Mr Rao categorically stated that the survey was only aimed at extending government benefits to genuine people but some “evil forces” were trying to obstruct it by creating unnecessary fears and doubts among the public.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao requested people to stay at home on August 19, give correct details to the enumerators for the Intensive Household Survey and cooperate with the state government for achieving its dream of a “Bangaru Telangana”.

“The state government has decided to conduct the household survey afresh as there are no correct statistics available with the government. We are not in a position to plan the schemes effectively with this incorrect data. This inaccuracy has been leading to scams and irregularities in the implementation of welfare schemes. Huge amount of public money is being wasted on bogus beneficiaries.

We want to put an end to this menace. For that reason, this household survey was planned. But some evil forces are trying to obstruct our efforts by creating unnecessary fears and doubts among the public.

I want to make it clear that this survey is not meant to create troubles for anyone. It is only to have an authentic data to extend the benefits of government schemes to genuine people. I urge all the people in the state to stay in their houses on August 19, participate in the survey and cooperate with the government,” Mr Rao said.

Interestingly, Mr Rao made special reference to the “household survey” by deviating from his written speech in the wake of an uproar over the survey with various political parties and leaders making serious allegations that the survey had an “hidden agenda” and that it was aimed to identify Seemandhra people residing in Hyderabad and create troubles for them.

After some people approached the High Court against the survey, the court gave its conditional approval, asking the government not to force anyone to participate in the survey and that it should be voluntary. The Union home ministry too inquired about the survey after Telugu Desam MPs from Seemandhra complained.
