Golconda Fort perfect backdrop for fete

National flag hurled at the historic Golconda Fort to celebrate Independence Day
Hyderabad:Telangana State Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, on Friday created history when he unfurled the national flag at the historic Golconda Fort to celebrate the first Independence Day in the new state.
A colourful ceremony with the majestic fort in the backdrop was held to showcase the rich legacy of Telangana. The CM unfurled the flag on a 62-feet high pole close to the iconic Taramati mosque amid rendition of the national anthem.
In his speech, he highlighted the significance of the fort in Telangana’s history, culture and administration. However, the traditional parade and of tableaux were missing due to space constraints inside the fort.
Mr Rao arrived to a rousing welcome at the rostrum with horse-driven outriders before his limousine. Delivering his maiden I-Day speech, Mr Rao said, “The people of TS are happy to celebrate the first Independence Day in their own state at Golconda Fort which is a symbol of Telangana’s heritage.”
“Bonalu, which has been celebrated by the Telangana people with much fanfare since the 12th century, begins at Golconda and ends here. If Hyderabad is the symbol of Telangana culture, the Golconda Fort reflects the rich legacy of Telangana administration. We should remember that the foundation for constructing Hyderabad was laid in Golconda by then rulers,” he added.
Mr Rao described the fort as an “engineering marvel”. “If we clap at Fateh Darwaza, it reverberates at Balahissar. The fort symbolises engineering excellence. It also stands for communal harmony and secularism as the tradition of sending muthyala talambralu for the wedding of Bhadradri Ramaiah started here.”
