Gridlocks on I-Day eve
Meanwhile with long weekend ahead, the Independence Day eve witnessed traffic gridlocks in many parts of the city on Thursday evening. After 5 pm, Majestic, Madiwala, Residency Road, Jayadeva junction, NIMHANS Road and M G Road witnessed bumper-to-bumper traffic as large numbers of motorists either began driving out of the city or approached Majestic to catch trains and outstation buses. The traffic police were caught unawares and had no contingency to deal with gridlocks. Intermediate Ring Road, Outer Ring Road, Hebbal and surroundings also witness heavy traffic. The light rainfall in several parts of the city only added to the misery of commuters. Traffic officials said that all the constables were put on duty to control the traffic. “When the volume of vehicles increases over road capacity these gridlocks occur. During festivals such as Dasara and Diwali, similar gridlocks are reported from the city centre,” said a traffic official.
