First Metro stretch to be operational on Ugadi

The Metro Rail stretch from Uppal to Mettuguda, will be opened to the public in January on Ugadi
Hyderabad:The Metro Rail stretch from Uppal to Mettuguda, which will be opened to the public in January on Ugadi, is already creating a buzz among citizens who live along the 8-km. With many retired and existing Railway employees living along the stretch, there is a lot of talk about how the new transport system should be used.
Two associations, the Metro Rail Commuters’ Association and Metro Rail Travelers’ Assoc-iation, are already creating awareness on the stretch.
From high-end elevators to air-conditioned stations, the commuters have to ensure that the facilities are kept neat and clean. There will be CCTV cameras and security guards at the stations, but the commuters themselves will have to follow safety measures due to the high-speed trains.
Prasad Rao, convener of the Metro Rail Commuters’ Association, explained, “We are expecting a lot of high school children and college students to travel by the Metro. They can’t stand at the edge of the platform and look for the train, like people do in the case of MMTS and the other trains. We are educating students, women and senior citizens on how to travel by Metro.”
D.S. Shastri, general secretary of the Metro Rail Travelers’ Assoc-iation said, “We have already asked HMR to reserve seats for children, pregnant women, senior citizens and physically challenged. We also need a one-card system, which will be applicable for Metro Rail, MMTS and RTC buses.”
