Sai Deodhar to make her big comeback

Saara Akaash star to make a comeback with another tv show Udaan on Colours
Sai Deodhar, who became a household name with her TV show Saara Akaash, has been away from TV for four years but will soon make her big comeback with Udaan on Colors.
The actress says, “I took a hiatus after giving birth to my daughter, she took up all my time. Gurudev Bhalla, the director of Saara Akaash, had promised that whenever he makes his own show, he will cast me in it. He kept his promise and when he narrated the script of Udaan to me, I had tears in my eyes.”
Sai plays a mother in the show and she admits that her real-life experience has helped. “Every new mother goes through the anxiety of leaving her baby and going to work. I try to pack up early and rush home to feed my daughter and read stories to her,” she says. Sai’s husband Shakti Anand (her co-star in Saara Akaash) persuaded her to get back to work: “He kept saying, ‘You can’t just sit at home. If you don’t fulfil you dreams, how will you help our daughter fulfil hers?’ Even I had a working mother, who was a filmmaker — this was in the ’80s when there weren’t many women in the industry and now, a programming head. My grandparents were doctors and very encouraging. So my family understands the value of this comeback.”
TV programming may have evolved to a certain degree over the years, but Sai says she doesn’t find it too changed. “It’s a circle, I think we are going back to the kind of programmes we had in the ’80s-’90s. My parents made shows like Kachhi Dhoop and Lifeline in those decades and new shows like Yudh and 24 are reinventing that same formula. They’re old concepts, repackaged,” she says.
Apart from Shakti, Sai received lots of encouragement from her closest friends TV actor Hussain Kuwajerwala and his wife Tina. “They have been with me through all my ups and downs, and always encouraged me to return to acting,” she says. Shakti adds “Yes, I watch television and find it hypocritical when TV actors say they don’t watch Indian shows. Why do you look down upon the medium that made you a star? It is horrible to be so ungrateful.”
