Chinese firm to invest in Telangana State

Piramal promises to come out with investment proposals
Hyderabad:China’s Dongfang Electric Corporation (DEC) has offered to set up a world-class power generation facility with 660-1,000 MW capacity in the shortest time possible in Telangana. A high-level delegation from Dongfang Electric Corporation met Chief Minister K. Chandrase-khar Rao at the Secre-tariat on Tuesday. The delegation comprised Han Zhiqiao, president DEC International and chairman, DEC India, Liang Jian, managing director, DEC India, Dr Zhang Hong, general manager (Thermal) DEC International China, Zhang Chengli, DEC representative in India, and S.K. Bhan, DEC Represe-ntative in India.
DEC is the world’s largest power equipment manufacturer based at Chengdu, Sichuan, China. They have business bases in over 30 countries and have more than 100 projects. “DEC has expressed keen interest to participate in the government of Telangana’s efforts to add power generation capacity in the shortest time possible and in an effective way. The delegation assured the Chief Minister that the government of Sichuan province would actively support DEC’s business with Telangana for pow-er projects,” a government spokesman said.
The delegation also assured that project finance would be arranged on mutually agreed terms and conditions. The Chinese delegation told the CM that they had already supplied power project equipment of 40,000 MW to power plants in India in different states and they wanted a long-term partnership with Telangana too.
Mr Rao told the delegation that he would like to visit Chengdu to see the power equipment and other projects there. He also informed the delegation that 30 per cent of houses in Hyderabad had furniture bought from China.
S.K. Joshi, principal secretary, energy and Rajashekar Reddy, special secretary to the Chief Minister, were present in the meeting. In another development, Piramal group chairman Ajay G. Piramal, wrote to M Rao stating that he was impressed by his openness, candour and quick response during their recent meeting and promised to come out with a concrete proposal for investment in state.
