Bound by law, administration steps up effort to extricate body of six year old from borewell

The teams are using casing pipes and cameras for the operation

Hubli: A day after the district administration stopped the operation to rescue six-year-old Timmanna Hatti, who fell into a 160-foot borewell in Sulikeri village of Bagalkot district, the rescue teams have stepped up efforts to pull out his body using air compressors.
The teams are using casing pipes and cameras for the operation.
The administration has revived the operation to at least extract the body following the advice of the advocate-general that as per law, the procedure has to be completed.
Sangli-based Helpline team, National Disaster Rescue Force (NDRF) and robot expert Manikantan from Madurai in Tamil Nadu have arrived at the spot. Fire brigade staff too are helping the rescuers. But intermittent rain hampered two attempts by the rescuers to pull out the body on Sunday.
“We are trying to extract the body by using alternative technologies as the law does not permit us to bury it in the borewell. We have also received advice from the Advocate General. This is necessary as we have to perform the autopsy of the body to find out the cause and time of boy’s death as per the legal procedure,” said Mr S.R. Patil, Bagalkot district in-charge minister.
Meanwhile, work to refill the trench continued. Expressing his satisfaction over government’s efforts, the boy’s father Hanumantappa Hatti claimed that he will feel that his son has taken rebirth after his farm land returned to him in the original form.
