Agitation shuts down Annamalai university

Around 15,000 students of the university boycotted classes and staged dharna
Cuddalore: Annamalai University in nearby Chidambaram Saturday announced indefinite suspension of classes at its campus barring medical courses following a dharna by students demanding disbursement of scholarship for SC/ST students.
Shiv Das Meena, the administrator of the university after it was taken over by the government two years ago, ordered the suspension of classes in all departments except the medical college and hostel students were asked to leave for their home towns, professor and chief of arts wing T. Rajendran told reporters.
Around 15,000 students of the university, under the umbrella of a joint action committee (JAC), boycotted classes and staged a dharna inside the campus. The students are demanding distribution of Rs 48 crore sanctioned by government.
