Karnataka government will announce a new industrial policy, covering a five-year period

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced on Friday that the government will announce a new industrial policy, covering a five-year period from this year.

“The updated 2014-19 policy would create a robust framework for industries, while taking into account rapid changes the state has been witnessing,” he said.

After inaugurating the 10th India Innovation Summit, under the aegis of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), he said, “The new policy will aid both the existing and prospective companies in the state and encourage investment.”

Underlining the government’s commitment to further develop the IT sector, crucial for bringing innovation back, Mr Siddramiah said Karnataka i4 Policy, covering IT, ITeS, Innovation and Incentives, will make the state, and Bengaluru in particular, the most preferred destination for global investment.

IT-BT Secretary Srivatsa Krishna said that the state is set to introduce mobile governance, making available all major services on users’ fingertips.

Mr S. Gopalkrishnan, immediate past president, CII and chairman, 10th India Innovation Summit, said that creating incubation labs in colleges for students to develop products is the need of the hour.
