Don’t tax other state vehicles: Hyderabad High Court

Seeking payment of Telangana Life Time Tax questioned
Hyderabad: In a significant ruling, the Hyderabad High Court said that if a motor vehicle registered in some other state entered the composite state of Andhra Pradesh or the bifurcated state of Telangana, it is not required to be taxed as spelt out in the Sixth Schedule of the Motor Vehicles Act, automatically.
Justice Nooty Ramamohana Rao was disposing of a petition by Greeeda Sudhasini of Tamil Nadu, seeking to declare the action of the Regional Transport Authority, Secunderabad, in seizing and detaining her car without conducting an inquiry.
Ms Sudhasini told the court that she had come to Hyderabad in her car to visit her brother’s house in Secunderabad.
When the motor mechanic was taking the vehicle to the garage, the assistant motor inspector intercepted it on June 12, 2014, and seized it on the ground that it was found plying for the past two months without paying Telangana State Life Time Tax and without carrying the original Registration Certificate.
The judge said that motor vehicles, which are registered in some other state are required to give tax.
