Meet the politician with 4-kilo gold shirt costing over a crore

Pankaj Parakh is a school dropout and a member of Sharad Pawar's NCP

Mumbai: Pankaj Parakh, a school dropout and a member of Sharad Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party, owns a shirt worth 1.30 crores. The shirt that he dons as a sign of success, weighs four kilos.

Parakh made his fortune through a garment business after quitting school in Class 8 and is a member of the municipal corporation of Yeloa, about 260 kms from Mumbai.

He wants to wear this shirt on a special occasion, like his 45th birthday, where expected attendees include Maharashtra Tourism Minister Chhagan Bhujbal of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and around a dozen legislators of different parties.

He wore the same shirt for visiting the famous Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai. While posing for pictures outside the temple, many curious onlookers wondered why he is wearing that piece of clothing.

He has earlier said that he is passionate about gold and he got this special piece stitched to mark his 45th birthday. The shirt was designed in Nashik and then created by jewellers in Mumbai, where a team of around 20 select artisans spent 3,200 hours over the past two months to 'stitch' it. He has also mentioned that he has detailed receipts and bank records for the income tax officials if they inquire about his shirt.

He has also confessed that many guests considered him an embarrassment at his own wedding because he sported more gold than the bride.
