Order to shut KMML factory as 80 students hospitalised after gas leak, ADGP to probe

Kollam: The Factories and Boilers Department has decided to shut down the Kerala Metals and Minerals Ltd factory following a gas leak on the second consecutive day leading to the hospitalisation of over 80 students at Chavara on Thursday. Tension prevailed in the area after DYFI and RYF activists blocked the National Highway in front of the KMML protesting against the incident.

A-grade SI Nasar, 52, of Chavara was injured in stone-pelting during a clash between the police and the protesters. Over 80 students of Government College, Chavara, and Govt. HSS for girls and Govt. HSS for boys at Sankaramangalam have been admitted to various hospitals. He was speaking to mediapersons while visiting the victims at a private hospital at Karunagappally.
