Forest officials recovered a hunting rifle from poacher

Krishnagiri: A wild gaur and a spotted deer were poached in the Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri reserved forest on Wednesday. The forest departmet arrested four poachers for hunting down the gaur and deer.

When the anti-poaching team combed the Hosur forest division, they found M. Muniraj, 40, of Denkanikottai taluk roaming inside the reserved forest (RF) at Soorappankottai in Bevenatham village panchayat. During interrogation, he admitted to having poached a wild gaur in the jungles.

Forest officials recovered a hunting rifle from him, and he has been arrested. A hunt is on for his two associates, Hosur district forest officer A.K. Ulaganathan said.

In Dharmapuri, three poachers were arrested for killing a spotted deer. Madhu, 30, his associates Venkatesh, 25, and Perumal, 32, natives of Attur, in Salem district, were arrested when forest officials conducted a vehicle check near S. Ammapalayam, near Harur, in Dharmapuri district.

When questioned, the three admitted to having poached a spotted deer in Kottaipatti RF in the Harur forest range, forest officials said. Officials recovered a rifle, explosives and a car used for poaching the deer.
