Sharad Pawar, Sonia Gandhi renew ties for Maharashtra polls

This is the third time that the two parties felt it necessary to remain together
New Delhi: The Congress and the NCP have decided to fight the upcoming Maharashtra polls together against the BJP-Shiv Sena-led front. This is the third time that the two parties felt it necessary to remain together. The Congress is expected to leave 125 Assembly seats for the Sharad Pawar-led party.
The decision to fight the electoral battle together was taken at a meeting of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and NCP chief Sharad Pawar here on Wednesday. The NCP, which is one of the founder members of the UPA, also fought the 2014 Lok Sabha polls together in the state.
Mr Pawar that leaders from both the parties in the state will meet to finalise the seat-sharing agreement in the next eight to 10 days.
According to the sources, Mr Pawar wants to fight the polls together with the Samajwadi Party, Left, PWP and keep the BSP in good humour. This will consolidate non-NDA voters. This is because the Congress secured just two while the NCP won four of the 48 Lok Sabha seats in the sate in the 2014 polls.
