Post Office Act may be amended

The new act will make postal authorities responsible for non-delivery or loss in transit of articles
New Delhi: The Union government on Monday said it is considering a proposal to amend the Indian Post Office Act, making postal authorities responsible for non-delivery or loss in transit of articles for consumers.
“The proposal to amend the Indian Post Office Act, 1898, is under consideration which includes the examination of the scope of making postal authorities responsible for non-delivery or loss in transit of the articles of consumers,” minister of communications and IT Ravi Shankar Prasad said in a written reply to Lok Sabha.
