High Court gives seven days on FAST scheme

MLA had moved the court challenging a GO issued by the TS government

Hyderabad: A division bench comprising CJ Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta and Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar of the Hyderabad HC on Monday questioned the locus standi of Telugu Desam MLA Pithani Satyanarayana in challenging the FAST scheme introduced by the Telangana government.

The MLA had moved the court challenging a GO issued by the TS government to make the scheme available to students if their parents were residents of TS as on November 1, 1956.

Justice Sengupta said the petitioner is not a parent. Senior counsel A. Satya Prasad, arguing for the petitioner, said the petitioner has locus standi as lakhs of students belonging to Seemandhra region were affected. The case has been posted to next Monday.

He asked what was the petitioner's locus standi to question the decision. He told the counsel of the petitioner that the court would first look into whether the petitioner has any locus standi to challenge a government decision, before going into merits of the case.

When, the bench asked the reaction of the counsel representing the Telangana government, he sought time to respond. The case has been posted to next Monday.
