Congress leaders fault K Chandrasekhar Rao for police-farmers clash

Lathi-charge on several farmers came in for sharp criticism by Opposition parties

Hyderabad: The police lathi-charge that caused injuries to several farmers, who were protesting against erratic or lack of power supply for the past few weeks in Chegunta, Medak, the home district of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, came in for sharp criticism by Opposition parties — the Congress, TD and the BJP.

“During our 10-year rule, never was there such an incident hurting farmers. Is this the way the TRS government is going about addressing the power problem?” TPCC president Ponnala Lakshmaiah asked in a media release.

BJP state president G. Kishan Reddy, condemning the lathi-charge on farmers, said, it is high time for the CM to concentrate on administration rather than other issues.

He demanded withdrawal of cases against farmers and uninterrupted power supply for the agriculture sector in Telangana. He also said not only Chegunta, but several other places in Telangana; farmers have been agitating over poor power supply.

Telangana TD president L. Ramana, in a statement, condemned the lathi-charge on farmers and said the government has totally failed to address the problem instead is resorting to intimidation of hapless farmers.
