Telangana Chief Minsiter asks people to stay at home

Irregularities in welfare schemes and lands as result of ‘erroneous data’, says KCR
Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao urged people to stay at home on August 19 to give their details to the staff. He said that those who skipped the survey would be ineligible to claim various welfare schemes and benefits offered by the government.
Mr Rao said that general election-type duties would be assigned to state staff for completing the survey on a single day. The staff has to visit each and every household, gather accurate data on nativity, caste, income status, land details, assets etc. by verifying the details and not just take down what is told to them.
“This survey will form the foundation for the golden future of Telan-gana state. The data has to be accurate. It will be the basis for all the programmes and schemes to be devised by the government. The government will go ahead with any new initiative only after the submission of the survey report,” Mr Rao said.
He added that the government would use all the RTC buses, private buses, lorries and mini-vehicles in the state on August 19 to transport staff to each and every village and town to take up the survey.
Mr Rao said that scams and irregularities in welfare schemes and lands were the result of “erroneous data” available with the government and it needed to be corrected immediately for effective governance and delivery mechanism.
“There is no accurate data at present. The Census says something, ration cards say something. If we refer to Aadhaar or any other cards, the information there is different. We don’t even have accurate data on how many employees are working in the government despite paying their salaries and pensions. Due to this there is complete anarchy and confusion among officials and public and this is leading to scams and other irregularities,” Mr Rao said.
He cited ration cards surpassing total households in the state by over 22 lakh and 55 lakh houses built for poor under the housing scheme while there are only total 84,000 households in the state as classic examples of scams and bogus claims due to erroneous data.
Official sources said a separate mechanism was being devised to take up the survey in GHMC limits covering Hyderabad and RR districts to identify nativity of people.
It is learnt that Mr Rao has opined that the 1956 cut-off norm for nativity would not be a problem in Telangana districts but it could create problems in GHMC limits.
He said if the survey staff failed to get information on 1956 status in GHMC limits, they should seek their parents’/ ancestors’/family details to determine the nativity. The guidelines to this effect are expected in a couple of days. He added that if need be, military assistance would be taken to complete the survey in Hyderabad and RR districts.
