Electric Waste Orchestra is a project, which involves making use of old electronic components. Basically recycling and reverse engineering older electronics and computer components to create something new.
According to an article on Pri, Jackson, has made an electronic guitar, which comprises of old computer parts, namely a few old hard drives and a keyboard number pad.
The hard drives are reverse engineered and all circuit boards are removed, keeping the platters and the motor in tact. The hard drive motors, when spun manually, generate electricity (just as a simple motor) and the motors are connected to of each hard drive is hooked up to a different pitch.
The keyboard’s number pad is also connected and Jackson controls the pitch of each note using the number pad keys. Spinning and stopping the notes controls the notes accordingly.
