New Delhi: The Union government has decided to carry out a fresh scrutiny of controversial writer Taslima Nasreen’s visa which allows her a longer stay in the country.
Denying immediate extension of her visa for one year, the MHA has allowed her a two month stay for the time being before a final decision is taken. A two-month visa has been given pending to the writer pending a decision on the longer-term visa.
Ms Nasreen had expressed keenness to live in India permanently, especially Kolkata but had to leave the city in 2007 after there were protests by a section of Muslims against her works. While the West Bengal government may be reluctant to allow her a stay, the Centre is clearly in no hurry.
