16 ex-ministers of UPA face eviction from their present accommodation

Former ministers of the UPA government have been staying in the official residences despite losing elections a month back

New Delhi: Sixteen former Union ministers of the UPA government, including Kapil Sibal and Farooq Abdullah, have been served eviction notices by the Union urban development ministry after they overstayed in government bungalows allotted to them while in power, owing to a total damage of Rs 20 lakh.

Union urban development minister M. Venkaiah Naidu on Wednesday said these former ministers have stayed in their bungalows for over a month after the UPA lost power in the May general elections and that they have been served notices to vacate their houses immediately.

Mr Naidu said the 16 UPA ministers, who are overstaying, owe total damage charges of Rs 20.92 lakh for one month of unauthorised stay till July 26.

The ex-ministers should have vacated their houses within one month of the new government assuming charge.

“Damage charges ranged from Rs 53,250 per month in case of Type V bunglow of Shri Lalchand Kataria to Rs 2.43 lakh for Type III accommodation of Jaipal Reddy,” Mr Naidu said.

Other ex-ministers who have been served notices are Ajit Singh, Beni Prasad Verma, Pallam Raju, Girija Vyas, Krishna Tirath, S.K. Jena, Sachin Pilot, Jitendra Singh, Pradip Jain Aditya among others.
