Top cop faces probe for failing to act on complaint against rowdy

Three officers have to be kept under suspension
Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday directed the authorities concerned to conduct a probe against Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police, Belthangady Circle Police Inspector and Belthangady Police Station In-charge Officer over charges of dereliction of duty.
The three officers have to be kept under suspension, the court ordered, and asked the Mangalore Police Commissioner to probe the three officers.
The court passed the orders while allowing a petition filed by Shashikala J. Shetty against the police officers, alleging that they failed to register an FIR when she complained that a rowdy had illegally constructed a temple in a land that belonged to her. She had approached a lower court claiming ownership of the land and the court had ordered status quo in the matter.
Despite lodging the complaint, the petitioner alleged that the police did not act on her complaint, nor did they register an FIR. They allegedly told her that it was a civil matter that had to be resolved before the court of law.
HC seeks documents
The high court has sought documents from railway authorities on the construction of railway over bridges near the residence and farm house of a former central minister. The authority has sought time to file the documents.
