Telangana plans new body to rescue land from unscuplous usage

The special division will decide on the price at which the lands should be granted

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has decided to have a separate division – Land Management Organisation – for focused and time-bound action against misused, unused and encroached lands.

The decision is crucial owing to the government’s plans to grant lands to industries in around the Hyderabad, for housing schemes and for retrieving misused and unused land for use of public and government departments.

“Formation of this separate division is to ensure transparency and zero tolerance towards encroachments and irregularity,” said a senior Revenue official.

As the government is facing legal hurdles in retrieving land parcels from various private individuals and institutions, the special division is likely to have a legal team under the supervision of the state advocate general.

Telangana Chief Commissioner of Land Administration (CCLA), Mr S.K. Sinha, will head the organization that will also have 10 senior officers and a special legal team.

“The special organisation is going to play a crucial role. Later, grants of land to industries, power sector, information and technology, tourism, education, housing and other public and private organization will be decided by the Land Management Organization (LMO). The special division will also decide on the price at which the lands should be granted,” said a source in CCLA.

The government has also decided to establish a separate building for LMO on a three-acre land at the Jubilee Hills area.

Examination of applications for land by individuals and organizations will be taken up by the LMO by involving the district collector, joint collector and other divisional level revenue officials. Besides granting of lands, acquisition will also be looked after by the Land Managemen Organisation

“Earlier, grant of land used to take place just by issuing a government order. This had resulted in several irregularities and misuse of land and there was no proper monitoring system. This move to establish a separate division will help to deal with all the issues, including thousands of crores worth of land in Ranga Reddy and Hyderabad districts,” said the official.
