Judges Bill in parliament next week

Several top jurists pushed for scrapping of the existing collegium system

New Delhi: The Narendra Modi government is contemplating bringing the much-delayed Judicial Appointments Bill in Parliament next week.

Sources stated that the Centre has initiated discussion on the Bill within the party which deals with bringing in transparency in the process of judicial appointments. Several top jurists pushed for scrapping of the existing collegium system under which judges appoint judges at a consultation held on Monday.

Once the discussions are complete, the Bill may come in the Cabinet and then in Parliament next week,” sources said.
