Andhra Pradesh readies cyclone report

Government has asked the agriculture department to prepare a report justifying that 572 mandals were affected by cyclone

Hyderabad: The AP government has asked the agriculture department to prepare a report justifying that 572 mandals were affected by cyclone and drought and paddy yield was below 50 per cent.

The AP Cabinet at its last meeting adopted a resolution waiving of Rs 1.5 lakh farm loans for each family. Rules state that after the Cabinet, the resolution should be sent to the department concerned for follow up. But so far the agriculture department has not received the resolution.

On the advice of the finance department, the agriculture department on Monday put up a file asking for the resolution. Meanwhile, the finance department sent a letter to Deepali Pant Joshi, executive director of RBI, informing her of the Cabinet decision on waiver of farm loans. The letter said that the state Cabinet has decided to waive Rs 1.5 lakh farm loans to each family. The department added that the CM is committed to waiver of the loans.
