Uttar Pradesh proposes CBI probe in Lucknow rape

State’s decision to recommend a CBI probe comes a day after the forensic report blasted the police theory

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav succumbed to pressure from the Opposition and recommended a CBI probe into the gangrape and murder of the widow in Mohanlalganj on the outskirts of the state capital. A formal letter in this regard is being sent by the state home department. The state’s decision to recommend a CBI probe comes a day after the forensic report blasted the police theory and confirmed that the woman had been subjected to gangrape before being murdered.

The Lucknow police had earlier ruled out gangrape saying that the woman died of multiple injuries on her body and the sole accused was the security guard Ram Sewak Yadav who has been arrested. The victim’s family which has been staging a dharna since the past five days, demanding a CBI probe, called off the protest.
