Chennai's glamour girls and fashionistas are willing to lop off those long tresses for the chic and uber-short ‘pixie' cut.
Chennai: The prudish plait has now given way to the more daring, pixie look with Chennai girls choosing to go short this season. While it is largely true that women here love their tresses to the point of being labelled ‘conservative’, there are quite a few who are walking the short route, showing off their stylish hairdos.
Actress Parvathy Menon chopped off her lustrous locks last year, after Maryan’s success and now sports a stylish bob, which was quite a hit in the film, Bangalore Days. It’s a look that won her many responses. “Many were shocked. Some liked it, some didn’t. I had wanted to get away from the characters I was playing and wanted a change. So, I went in for that look and it was the most liberating thing I’ve ever done in two years! It was a huge change,” she says.
Similarly, city baker and confectioner Minal Kripalani chose to chop off her long hair, causing a collective gasp. “I had grown my hair really long for seven years and was looking for a change. When I asked people if I should cut my hair short, many asked me not to. But I wanted something drastic,” says this entrepreneur, who shocked everyone with her stylish pixie cut. “People make a big deal about going in for a short look. But I don’t know why the fuss. After all, it is hair — it will grow back,” she says pragmatically.
Model Arthi Anirudha chose to try out the ‘pixie’ look before actually going the whole way. The pretty lady was thrilled with the outcome. “I wore the pixie look for the first time for a show and really liked the way I looked. The pixie cut made me feel much younger. So I definitely would like to do it sometime, but not immediately. Such a style would also be easy to maintain in the Chennai weather,” she says.
