Police acts against bikers after locals complain

Dozens of youngsters honking their bike and attempt stunts
Hyderabad: The Osmansagar bund road is usually quiet on weekday mornings. But on Sundays, it is exceptionally noisy.
At the crack of dawn on Sunday, dozens of youngsters honking their bike engines and skidding their bikes, attempt stunts like wheelies and stoppers, while bystanders cheer them on. Gradually, more and more bikers join in.
They create such a ruckus that morning walkers and locals are afraid to use the road on Sundays. Though the police says these are not organised performances, sometimes, nearly 100 bikers gather there for some hot-blooded action. News of the action spreads by word of mouth, or on the ubiquitous social media.
Most of the bikers are teenagers, who pay little attention to the dangers of their stunts, which they perform without any safety measures. Gandipet emerged as an ideal spot for the bikers as the area is not as intensely covered by the police as the Outer Ring Road.
“Gandipet is a tourist spot, and these youngsters find Osmansagar bund a suitable place to do their stunts and get photographed. There are no traffic police posts anywhere nearby, and the Narsingi police does not make frequent visits here on Sundays,” said N. Satheesh Reddy, a retired Government employee who goes to the bund for his morning walks.
As complaints poured in from locals, the Cyberabad police has decided to take strict measures and counsel the youngsters and their parents.
Officials say that not only the bikers, but their parents should also be held responsible for their actions. “We have started rounding up the bikers and their vehicles. Only after a booking a case, and counseling them and their parents will we let them go," said a senior police official from Cyberabad.
