Mahesh Bhatt files police complaint against Facebook impostor

Mumbai: Mahesh Bhatt filed a police complaint on Monday against someone masquerading as him on Facebook and conning people by promising them roles in the filmmaker’s upcoming films.

“On Monday morning, a journalist from Kolkata called up to confirm if I had called someone he knew, to Mumbai, to meet me for a role,” Mahesh said, when we asked him about the complaint.

“I was shocked and told him I am not even on Facebook. That is when I felt I should approach the police. In the digital space, people use the anonymity to exploit gullible film industry aspirants. This person has been taking my pictures from Twitter and posting it on the fake Facebook account to make it look authentic. I will now be talking to the India representative for Facebook. I have also spoken to the film producers’ guild CEO Kulmeet Makkar, to raise this issue.”
