Two held for Ejipura molestation case

The arrested have been identified as Rohit Tiwari (22) and Santosh Kumar (21)

Bengaluru: Four days after a 20-year-old designing student in a Kormangala college was molested, Viveknagar police arrested the two bike-borne men from Kormanagala on Friday night.

The police had formed a special team to track down the culprits. The arrested have been identified as Rohit Tiwari (22) and Santosh Kumar (21). Both worked as direct investment managers with HDFC Life Insurance in Kormangala and are residents of Kadugodi.

Based on the details provided by the victim, a resident of Frazer Town, the police traced the two men. The victim had given the police the colour of the culprits’ helmet, model and colour of the bike and last four digits of the bike’s registration number.

The special team checked and verified nearly 2,000 motorbikes in Kormangala and Audogodi police station limits. The police zeroed in on the two accused and picked them up for questioning on Friday night after their background check. The preliminary investigation revealed that they were habitual offenders.

The victim, who hails from Chhattisgarh, was on her way to meet a client in Indiranagar and had reached the Eijipura signal on the Peripheral Ring Road.

“Two well-dressed men on a bike stopped their vehicle very close to me even though the signal was green. The bike rider who was wearing the helmet groped me. The duo then rode little further, passed lewd comments, grinned and sped away. They passed comments in English and Hyderabadi Hindi accent,” she stated in her complaint to the Viveknagar police.

The duo broke down during the interrogation and confessed to the crime. On Saturday morning, the victim, who was summoned by the police, identified the accused, the police said.
