Managing Director not involved in dispute: BMW

Mr Stefan David Schlipf was not in India during Delta Cars dispute

Hyderabad: The BMW Financial Services India on Saturday said the law suit filed by the Delta Cars Private Limited, an ex-dealer from the city, was after non-renewal of dealer contract in 2009. It clarified that Delta Cars was a BMW dealer from June, 2007 till December, 2009. It also said Stefan David Schlipf was appointed MD in 2013 only, and was based out of the country during the period of allegations and dispute. Meanwhile, Mr Stefan secured a bail in the case.

In a statement, BMW said, the dealership agreement expired on December 31, 2009, in the absence of a further term renewal. As a consequence, Delta Cars filed law suits in 2010 against BMW India Private Limited. It was after the dealership agreement.

The BMW Group India mentioned that Stefan was appointed managing director of BMW Financial Services India Private Limited on April 14, 2013. During the period of allegations, between 2007 and 2009, he was employed in BMW Bank GmbH and was based out of Munich. He was not present in India during the period of dispute with Delta Cars. Till some days ago, Mr Stefan has never been accused in the lawsuit.

“BMW Group India has raised a strong objection to the arrest of Dr Stefan David with the authorities. He was not present in India during the period of dispute. The company considers this incident as completely unacceptable.” said Abhay Dange, director of corporate affairs, BMW Group India.

The company said it has very strict compliance guidelines and processes. BMW Group India or any of its directors have not engaged in any wrong doings and the company would proceed legally.

“The case is already in the honourable court and the company would take care of how to move forward, and face it legally.” said Mr Abhay, refusing to comment further.
