Aishwarya is a mermaid in her own right

The actress used to be a state-level swimming champion, and is also trained dancer

Chennai: It’s a side to her that helped her land many a film role. Aishwarya wanted to be a professional dancer and swimmer from a young age, and this became an early training ground for a career in films. Aishwarya of Pannaiyarum Padminiyum fame entered films after showcasing her skills as a dancer on a reality show, her spirited moves winning her much appreciation.

She has been a swimming from the age of nine and has participated in State-level swimming competitions at Vijayawada when she was in Class 8, winning several medals.

“I have always been fascinated by swimming. I went to a boarding school in Thirupathi where I learnt swimming. Since I stayed in a hostel there, my parents didn’t know that I was practised swimming, but they were glad when they came to know that I had picked up an essential skill for life. It keeps me healthy. Even now, I make sure I go swimming whenever I get time,” says Aishwarya.

She considered it lucky, since it was swimming that helped her bag a role in Rummy, which had Vijay Sethupathi and Inigo Prabhakaran in the lead.

“The makers of Rummy were searching for a female lead who knew swimming as there is a shot in the film where she had to swim in a deep well in a village. Everybody was cool about it, but I knew that it was very deep and home to some big fish, which came close to me and bit my feet, like in a fish spa! It was indeed a good experience, though a little scary,” Aishwarya says.

“When it comes to dance, it has always been an added advantage for me as an actor,” she says. “Also, during my reality show on a private channel, I got a chance to know and learn more about the different styles. From the salsa to hip hop, I love all the various styles. Also, whenever I am feeling low or feel like dancing, I just go to my dance class and start performing. It gives me happiness.” she says.
