TDP MPs meet Narendra Modi on demand for backward classes' welfare

Delegation urged the PM to introduce the Backward Classes Bill in Parliament

New Delhi: A group of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MPs sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi's support on various demands concerning the welfare of the backward classes, including that for the grant of constitutional status to the National Commission for Backward Classes.

Submitting a 14-point charter of demands on Friday, the delegation urged the Prime Minister, among others, to introduce the Backward Classes Bill in Parliament, create a separate ministry for OBCs and extend social security legislation for OBCs on the lines of the SC/ST Atrocities Act.

The TDP MPs also sought removal of the creamy layer classification for OBCs and introduction of post-matriculation and pre-matriculation scholarships for the community at the central level along with the liberalisation of National Backward Classes Corporation loans.

Thota Narasimham, the TDP leader in Lok Sabha, said that the Prime Minister gave a patient hearing to the delegation's demands concerning the welfare of OBCs.
