Commonwealth Games 2014: Judokas guarantee India medals

Shushila Likmabam and Navjot Chana enter finals in their respective categories

Glasgow: Shushila Likmabam, Navjot Chana and Manjeet Nandal made sure that Indian judokas make a bright start at the Commonwealth Games 2014. While Shushila and Chana have sealed a place in the finals, Nandal has reached the quarter-finals.

Shushila reached the semi-finals in the -48kg by beating Marie Medza Effa in the Round of 16 and then winning against the Australian Amy Meyer in the quarter-final.

In the quarterfinal against the Australian Shushila picked up three shidos but got an ippon, full point which helped her to seal a win.

Likmabam then won her semi-final to assure India of their first medal by pinning Chloe Rayner in the women's 48kg category in the semis.

Navjot Chana too booked his quarterfinal slot in the -60kg group as he beat Tom Pappas of Australia. Navjot Chana too has qualified the finals as he won his semi-final against South Africa’s Daniel le Grange of South Africa.

In the men's -66kg preliminary Round of 32 and Round of 16, Manjeet Nandal won against Malta's Jeremy Saywell by O-Soto-Gari and then defeated Asa Weithers of Barbados despite having to a shido, penalty, in the first minute. These two victories sealed his place in the last 8.
