With Vijayawada, Guntur as ‘ideal’ choices for AP capital, will there be protests?

A formal decision and announcement is expected soon

Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government is strongly in favour of building the new capital city between Vijayawada and Guntur and the same was conveyed to the Centre-appointed Sivramakrishnan Committee which is looking for suitable locations for setting up the state capital.

A formal decision and announcement is expected soon.

Chairman of the state advisory committee on capital and municipal administration and urban development minister Dr P. Narayana along with the state government’s representative in Delhi K. Ram Mohan Rao met Mr Sivaramakrishnan and other members in Delhi and held discussions for two hours.

Sources said Dr Narayana presented a strong case for the capital to be located between Vijayawada and Guntur or spread over Krishna and Guntur districts.

According to urban development minister P Narayana this location makes logistical sense as there is availability of land and easy access to water. Moreover, it is centrally located.

"Between Tada and Srikakulam, we have a coast length of 920 km. Krishna and Guntur are in the middle. Our chief minister wants to build a four-lane road from Kurnool to the capital, another from Anantpur to the capital, one from Kadapa to the capital and one from Chittoor to the capital. We already have a four-lane road running from Tada to Srikakulam, so the capital will be in the middle,'' the minister told a news channel.
