CBI all set to prepare Dayanidhi Maran chargesheet

CBI had registered a case against Dayanidhi Maran on October 9, 2011

New Delhi: The CBI, armed with attorney-general Mukul Rohatgi’s opinion that it has “enough prosecutable” evidence to file a chargesheet against former Union communications minister Daya-nidhi Maran in the Aircel-Maxis deal, is preparing to file a final report before the trial court.

It has also got replies to its judicial requests regarding the case from the UK, Bermuda and Mauritius.

The top law officer, in his opinion to the Union law ministry, said the CBI can file its charge sheet against the DMK leader “on the basis of available evidence.” Sou-rces said the agency “has to accept the opinion of the A-G.” The CBI will soon file its chargesheet in the case,” a source said.

The investigating officer, sources said, had in his report recommended the filing of charges against 10 persons, incl-uding Mr Maran, but CBI director Ranjit Sinha disagreed with the recommendation to prosecute all in the case.

The CBI on October 9, 2011 had registered a case against Dayanidhi Maran, his brother and five others over alleged irregularities in the Aircel-Maxis deal.
