Vibgyor High School to reopen next week

If school is found guilty, action would be initiated against management: Commissioner

Bengaluru: With the city rocked with frequents incidents of sexual assaults, the new Police Commissioner, M.N. Reddi, has his task cut out. As soon as he briefed the Chief Minister about his taking charge, Reddi arrived at his office on Infantry Road, took the salute and immediately left for a meeting with the Vibgyor school management and parents in the school premises in Varthur.

After reaching the school, the commissioner visited the crime spot and took stock of the incident as explained by the DCP (Crime) Abhishek Goyal, who is supervising the investigation.

It was decided in the meeting that the school will resume functioning in a week’s time as the worried parents too expressed their interest in sending their wards to the school. The unfortunate incident had hampered more than one week’s schooling for about 3,500 students in the school.

The management has been advised by the police to revamp the school’s security measures. To begin the the school will have to implement basic security procedures such as background verifications of staff, more number of CCTVs and increasing number of women staffers, especially for security within the school, needs to be implemented as the prime concern of the parents is the security of their wards. The police have advised the school authorities to create a safe environment where the kids can continue with their studies without fear in the school.

The commissioner refrained from answering any questions on the ongoing investigation or will the school be held accountable for the incident?. Mr Reddi stuck to his point that the as the school remained closed since July 17, the focus at present is to make the school resume functioning.

The police chief also told reporters that the investigations will continue and if the school is found guilty at any point, action would be initiated against the management. MLA Nandeesh Reddy, whose daughter is studying in the school, said, “There are over 2,000 children studying there, where will they go? I might be able to pull strings and put my daughter somewhere else, but what happens to the all the others? Also, the other teachers in the school cannot be pressured in this way, when they had nothing to do with this. We cannot club all the staff under the same umbrella.”

After a 45-minute long meeting with the parents and school staff, Reddi addressed the media and confirmed that the school will resume in a week’s time and headed for a meeting with the education department at Vidhan Soudha.
