Kendriya Vidyalaya authorities set to take steps to improve standards

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kendriya Vidyalaya authorities are taking steps to improve the teaching standards following the Deccan Chronicle report on July 14 highlighting the poor state of affairs in the schools.
DC had reported that out of eight pending vacancies of teachers, six remained unfilled at KV Pattom school.
Though the Kendriya Vidyalaya had conducted written tests for teachers during March 2012, they were cancelled.
An applicant told DC, “I had appeared for the written test two years ago in Kochi along with thousands of others. When I was hoping to be selected, there came a letter that a retest has been scheduled for July 27.”
When DC contacted Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangatan’s regional office in Kochi, its deputy commissioner S. Selvaraj sought more time to study the matter.
A senior woman staff member at KV Pattom told DC that their newly-appointed Principal S. Ajayakumar had taken steps to improve the students’ standards. KV Pattom school, one of the best in the country, will conduct its year-long golden jubilee celebrations from August. Parents at KV SAP Peroorkada alleged that the classes were being conducted in police barracks for many years.
“My daughter joined sixth grade at KV SAP Peroorkada and she is now in the 11th grade, but all these years no steps were taken to have a new building.”
“Though the police personnel were shifted to their new building long ago, the hapless children continue to study in makeshift classrooms,” the parent told DC.
