Drunk former MP, friend abuse traffic cops

Former MP and actor Shashikumar too has joined the list of netas facing the music for abusing policemen

Bengaluru: Former MP and actor Shashikumar too has joined the list of netas facing the music for abusing policemen. A non-cognizable offence has been registered against the actor for not cooperating with the police and reportedly verbally abusing them on Saturday night.

The traffic police, as part of their special drive against drunken driving in the city on Saturday night, were stopping vehicles on Race Course Road to check whether the drivers were driving under influence. Shashikumar was in his car and was following a friend’s car and both the vehicles were flagged by the police around 12.30 am.

The actor’s friend, Chandra Mohan, was drunk and he got down from his vehicle and started abusing the cops. Soon he was joined by Shashikumar, who too was drunk, according to the police.
Shashikumar and Mohan verbally abused the cops and blamed them for not catching the rapists who were at large and targeting innocent people returning from parties. The actor also questioned the traffic cops whether they do not drink and wondered if they survived only on greens and ragi balls and repeatedly argued with traffic police on duty, said a constable who was on duty. The irked traffic cops got in touch with their law and order counterparts through wireless and informed them about the incident. The law and order inspector Sridhar arrived at the spot and took stock of the situation.

Mohan was booked for drunken driving and his car was seized, while a non-cognizable complaint for not cooperating with the police have been lodged against Shashikumar in High Grounds Police station.

“The actor will be called for an inquiry and if he still does not cooperate with us, we will seek the permission of the court to book him under IPC section 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharging his duties) and he will be booked appropriately,” said a senior police officer. Meanwhile, Mohan has paid the fine in the court and taken back his car from High Grounds Traffic Police station.
