Hyderabad: YSR Congress chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and India Cements CMD Srinivasan appeared before the special court for CBI cases in Nampally on Monday in connection with the alleged quid pro quo case. The case was posted to August 11. Apart from Mr Reddy, others accused in the case, including his close aide Vijay Sai Reddy, former ministers of united Andhra Pradesh P. Sabita Indra Reddy, Dharmana Prasada Rao, Mopidevi Venkataramana also appeared in connection with different aspects of the case.
Arguments on the charges pertaining to the first charge-sheet were supposed to come up for hearing. However, senior IAS official B. Sam Bob, and director of Hetero Group of companies, M. Srinivas Reddy, filed discharge petitions seeking removal of their names from the charge-sheet. The special court postponed the hearing. The first charge sheet was filed against Mr Jagan Reddy and 12 others on March 31, 2012, regarding the allotment of 75 acres of land each, to the Hetero Group of Companies and the Aurobindo Group. The quid pro quo case pertains to investments made by various private firms and individuals worth several crores in Mr Jagan Reddy’s various businesses in exchange for alleged favours during the tenure of his father, the late Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy as Chief Minster.
Some senior IAS officers including Samuel, Srilaxmi and Ratnaprabha were among the accused who did not appear. Other accused including industrialists who have been named in different charge sheets filed in connection with the case also appeared before the court. The CBI has filed ten charge sheets in the case.
The quid pro quo case allegedly pertains to investments made by various private firms and individuals to the tune of several crores in Mr Jagan Reddy’s various businesses, as part of a quid pro quo arrangement in exchange for alleged favours during the tenure of his father, late Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy as Chief Minster.
CBI has accused Jagan of amassing huge wealth through illegal means by misusing the offices of his father YSR, when he was the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh between 2004 and 2009.
