Contract Workers Regularisation: Dharna at inaugural function

Students of OU staged a dharna outside the new HRD’s National Book Trust which was scheduled to be inaugurated by K.T. Rama Rao

Hyderabad: Protests intensified at the Osmania University Campus as students staged a dharna outside the new HRD’s National Book Trust which was scheduled to be inaugurated by IT minister K.T. Rama Rao on Monday. He, however, skipped the event.

Several students were detained and taken into custody as a preventive measure for protesting on the fourth consecutive day. More students joined the protests and the police was forced to evict the students and arrest them. The path leading from the Arts College to Vidyanagar remained closed for a few hours inconveniencing commuters.

Many students went to the Charminar police station, forcing police to book an SC/ST atrocities case against ministers Harish Rao and Jagdishwar Reddy, who allegedly abused the students when they approached them to submit a representation.

Congress leaders Madhu Yashki Goud and Ponnam Prabhakar lashed out at the police for the lathi-charge against the students at the Osmania University and said that they will extend their support to the movement.

Addressing a group of students at Gandhi Bhavan, they said they will strive for a mutual decision.
