School outrage: Vision impaired kids thrashed in Andhra Pradesh

Correspondent canes three boys talking in class

Kakinada: In a chilling reminder of the corporal punishment that children face at schools, three visually impaired children were caned mercilessly for talking in class. The children were students of Classes III and IV.

A video clip telecast on local channels showed K.V. Rao, correspondent of Green Field School for the Visually Impaired near Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh, slamming the head of one of the boys on the floor. He was assisted by school principal T. Srinivasa Rao. All the while, the kids kept screaming for mercy, but the officials continued to thrash them.

The incident which occurred on July 18 at the school located at Achampet junction in Kakinada Rural mandal, was filmed on a cellphone and telecast on local channels on Monday. Soon after, angry locals thrashed both school officials. They were later arrested. It is not clear who filmed the assault. Incidentally, K.V. Rao is also visually challenged.
