UP CM directs officials to effectively pursue crime cases against women

UP govt has drawn flak from several quarters over recent cases of crimes against women

Lucknow: Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Monday directed officials to ensure effective pursuance of pending court cases, concerning rape and other crimes against women to bring the culprits to book at the earliest.

The UP government has drawn flak from several quarters over recent cases of crimes against women in the state, including the murder of one 30-year-old woman in Mohanlalganj area.

Akhilesh, who was reviewing the progress of cases related to rape and harassment of women, asked the officials to pursue pending court cases effectively to ensure that the guilty get the harshest of punishments, an official statement issued here said.

The chief minister said his government is most serious on such matters and the culprits would not be spared at any cost. Instructing that in the event of any such incidents, officials should initiate immediate action and arrest the accused. He also warned that strong action would be taken against all those found lax in their task.

Principal Secretaries of Home and Law were also present.
