Andhra Pradesh government forms advisory panel for state capital

The committee will examine different aspects of constructing a capital

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh government on Sunday constituted an advisory committee, comprising politicians as well as top executives of various business groups including GVK and GMR, to examine various aspects on the construction of a capital city for residuary Andhra Pradesh.

"The state government has decided to constitute an advisory committee to examine different aspects of constructing a capital city as well as suggest a plan of action for its development," a Government Order (GO) said.

The panel, to be headed by state Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana, comprises TDP Rajya Sabha member Y S Chowdary, TDP Lok Sabha MP Galla Jayadev, whose family owns the Amara Raja Group, ex-MLA Beeda Masthan Rao, G V Sanjay Reddy of GVK Group, Bommidala Srinivas of GMR Group, M Prabhakara Rao, chairman of Nuziveedu Seeds Ltd, and Chintalapati Srinivasa Raju, chairman of Peepul Capital.

The Principal Secretary of Municipal Administration Department would be the committee's Member Convener, according to the GO.

In addition to the members named in the GO, three prominent persons of national and international repute may be co-opted as special invitees to the committee which shall propose an action plan with timeliness for submission of its recommendations.

A Centre-appointed committee of experts is already looking into the issue of finding a new capital for residuary Andhra Pradesh, post the formation of separate Telangana. The committee has toured different parts of the state and is expected to submit its report soon.

Hyderabad presently serves as the common capital for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
